AUTO SKILLS TESTING
Requirements (Under age 18):

Must have held Level 1 Learner's License for at least 6 months. (Issue date is first set of 8 digits at top of the Level 1 license.)

You may take the driving test if you are not yet 16 as long as the first requirement is met. However, you will not be allowed to get your driver's license from the Secretary of State until you turn 16.

Must have satisfactorily completed Segment 2.

Must have parent certify that you have 50 hours of driving experience with 10 of those hours at night.

No tickets or accidents in the previous 90 days.

Parent or guardian must be in the vehicle during the road test.

Vehicle must pass safety inspection. For a complete list of items the examiner will inspect on the vehicle, GO HERE.

Examiner needs to see original Level 1 license, Segment 2 certificate, registration on the vehicle, current proof of insurance on the vehicle and needs copies of all 4 of these documents.
Requirements (Age 18 or over):
Must have held Temporary Instruction Permit for at least 30 days (unless waived by Secretary of State).

Temporary Instruction Permit cannot be expired. If so, you must get it reissued by the Secretary of State.

No passengers are allowed in the vehicle during the road test.

You must bring a “roadworthy” vehicle for the test (one that would not cause the test to be terminated due to faulty equipment). No refunds will be given if the vehicle does not pass inspection. If a vehicle does not have all of the optional safety equipment, the examiner will use his/her judgment to determine whether or not the vehicle is safe for the road test. Considerations such as weather and general passenger safety will dictate.
